Frequently asked questions

Who is this cohort best suited for?

This program is designed for science and healthcare founders, university researchers, and technical teams preparing for a SBIR/STTR Phase I submission. It is especially valuable for first-time applicants or teams that need structure, accountability, and strategic guidance.

Do I need prior SBIR/STTR experience ?

No. The cohort is designed to support both first-time applicants and teams with prior submissions. We focus on building a strong, competitive proposal regardless of starting point.

What level of support will I receive?

Support includes structured group learning sessions, templates, and proposal guidance. The design of this cohort is to help keep teams accountable and ensure the proposal is complete and competitive. Teams that have completed a proposal submission before may be suited for the Bronze program.

Teams that need additional support (such as completing required registrations or specific technical guidance) may be recommended to engage a higher-touch advisory tier (Silver or Gold) to stay aligned with the submission timeline and receive more 1:1 personalized support.

Why should I choose the Silver or Gold programs?

Silver and Gold programs offer registration support and personalized guidance through 1:1 sessions throughout the cohort as well as more reviews of proposal components. Companies new to SBIR/STTR and/or NIH should consider these programs.

Silver includes 5 1:1 sessions, an additional review of the specific aims and full proposal, and admission to the Submission Days Office Hours to walk through submission. Gold includes the same offerings as silver, but 10 total 1:1 sessions and reviews of proposal components as they're created during the cohort.

Do you write the proposal?

No, this is not a grant writing program. This program is designed for companies that have the subject matter expertise to write a grant proposal aligned with their research goals.

If you would like grant writing support we do offer fractional scientist services. Please reach out by email at info@beyondetal.com and put "Grant Writing Services" in the subject line to receive an overview of our services and pricing.

What if I'm looking to do a resubmission?

For resubmissions we recommend the Silver program. During your first 1:1 session we will review your previous summary statement and make recommendations on the revision of your proposal.
